Eastern Long-Eared Bat

On Sunday evening I picked up my first microbat to care for from the Bats QLD microbat coordinator. He is an adult Eastern Long-Eared Bat (Nyctophilus bifax) was suspected head trauma. I was told he is a difficult feeder and he has taken a while to become more comfortable. Currently he is on a few feeds per day instead of 1 larger feed because he won’t eat much in one sitting and not self feeding yet.

Christmas/New Years 2019-2020

The day before we went on holidays my niece had her 1st birthday. For which I had assisted my sister in setting up a circus theme party. My parents, grandmother and cousin were all there to celebrate.

The next day my partner, his family and I flew to Tahiti where we spent a night at a resort before boarding the cruise ship. We sailed around the French Polynesia islands until the 3rd of January 2020, returning to Papeete. Christmas we spent at sea due to being unable to tender to a port due to rough sea. New Years Eve we spent at Bora Bora where we went snorkeling with black-finned reef sharks and stingrays. New Years Day we went kayaking up the Fa’aroa River on the island of Raiatea.

The flight home was uneventful and after we stopped to see my sister in Brisbane before driving back to the Gold Coast. Unfortunately Lepus, my Eastern Longneck Turtle, had passed away while we were away. My partner thinks it must of happened the day we got back as his nephew was looking after our pets while we were away. We buried Lepus in the backyard and planted a white-flowered Callistemon on top as a memorial plant.

I’m working on a video of the photos and videos I took while on holiday. I am also preparing to be a microbat carer for Bats QLD. I’m also getting ready for my honours year at uni.
